Laura Linney's portrayal of vulnerable, yet strong characters has made her one of today's greatest American actors. Her father was a renowned writer, however Linney was raised as a single child by her single-mother who was a nurse. Through the summer months and with her father, Linney developed a passion for the theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting initially at Brown University then at Juilliard School. In just two short months after graduating, she launched her Broadway-based career. In the following year, she made her debut on TV and film. She has been featured on a number of stages, films and television productions since then. She's been nominated for three Tony Awards, three Academy Awards, five Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and received several awards during her professional career. However, in spite of the array of awards acting has been her primary passion and she continues to perform both in stage and screen.
